Wing wont start

Post by bobsnicholson » Thu May 04, 2023 8:03 am

After coming back from Spain i never bothered with the Wing until yesterday morning.
It would not start.
Plenty of life in the battery but the engine just would not turn.
Charged battery to make sure it was topped up.
Engine will not turn at all, all the electrics come on, not turning.
YES i have made sure the kill switch is in the right position.
Any ideas.
Looks like it's gonna be a van pick up to take and get mended.

Is there any Click noise from the starter and can you hear the fuel pump priming ?
Ok, I confess.......

Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm sure some Goldwings need to be in neutral to start. With a possibility of a "false" neutral , might be worth checking .

Absolutley no sound whatsoever. No clicking, never ever heard the fuel pump.

Yes it has to be in neutral and i have ensured it is.

Switch ignition on and all appears normal, lights come on, dash lights up as normal, press the start button and nowt.
Even tried sitting and lifting the side stand in case there was an issue with the cut out. No.

Taking Titty in for it's first service today so will call Honda tomorrow to come and take it away.

Does it have to be started with the clutch in? Triumph ones can be sticky after a long unused period. I used to pull the clutch lever in once or twice a month when I used to overwinter one inside.
You beat me to the side stand ploy :)

Bee, my Wing is a DCT (automatic) so no clutch.
I'm calling Bill Smiths Honda this am to tell them to collect it and sort it out.
Will revert if they tell me what the issue was.

No clutch. I had a bit of a shop around a few years back, but there were only a few around and all too tall (and expensive).
I wonder what's out there now.

Hope you get the Wing sorted soon. I'll be interested to hear what it is.
Do you have mice? We never had them in the house but they ate the wiring on my Mini Metro when it had been unused for a month and they always liked a good chew on John's fuel pipes on the big truck. He used to put mouse traps on the engine overnight. That stopped them.

Honda do quite a selection of DCTs now.
The new bike i just got, the X-ADV 750 is a DCT. Having 4 modes and the option to ride it changing the gears yourself,
like paddles on a car gives you all the options one needs, IMO.

I will revert when the Wing is sorted. Cannot sort it until end of next week now as we go away for 4 days from Tues to Oxon Hall in the MH (Shirley is following in one of the cars)
